Homemade Baby Food

Homemade Baby Food

So the big day has finally arrived, the day your baby can start eating solids. If you’re like me, you couldn’t wait for this day. I was more excited than my baby!

Firstly, there are two items that I can’t go without:

  1. Nuby Gardern Fresh Steam ‘n Fresh
  2. Baby Bullet

I chop up any fruits or vegetables in big pieces, put them into my Nuby Steamer, add a little bit of water and steam for 2-4min (depending on the fruit or veg). 1 Cup of Fruit and Veg is enough to make about 3 days worth of food.

After I’m done steaming, I add the content to the Baby Bullet mixing cup. I also add about 30-50ml of Breastmilk (or Formula) aswell. How much Breastmilk/Formula to add depends on the consistancy you want. Veggies like Sweet Potato needs alot more liquid than berries for example.

I breastfeed my baby first and then 30 min thereafter I would sit her down for her meal. Since Milk is still the #1 source of nutrition, you don’t want to fill them up on solids first. Food before 1 is just for fun 🙂

Start off the first months with single foods like:

  • Pear
  • Apple
  • Peas
  • Banana
  • Sweet Potato
  • Full cream yogurt
  • Blueberries & Oats

I only gave one meal a day for one month. If she did well on a food type two days in a row, I started with something new.

On month two I gave two meals a day. Breakfast and dinner. I also started with LED weaning mixed with Puree food. So breakfast usually is Puree and dinner LED weaning food.

Banana is a great food to start LED weaning with according to me. It’s easy for the baby to hold, is soft and mush for them to bite and very easy to chew and swallow. This was my first LED weaning food, which was followed eggs. Eventually Asparagus and tiny cubes of Chicken followed a week later.

Foods I added in month 2:

  • Scrambled Egg
  • Chicken
  • Asparagus
  • Beetroot
  • Butternut
  • Carrot

Every month I will add a meal, until she is at a point where she has 6 small meals a day. Please just remember that MILK is still the MAIN SOURCE of nutrition for your baby until they are 1 year old. Always give breastmilk or formula first and a meal 30 min afterwards.
